Study Mass Communication Abroad or Have an Experiential Learning Experience

Studying abroad offers LSU students an unparalleled opportunity to expand their horizons, immerse themselves in new cultures, and gain fresh perspectives that enrich both personal growth and academic development. Beyond the classroom, engaging in an internship or co-op abroad can significantly boost career prospects by providing hands-on experience in a global setting, enhancing cross-cultural communication skills, and building an international professional network. These experiences not only set students apart in a competitive job market but also cultivate adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and cultural intelligence—traits that are invaluable in today’s interconnected world. These opportunities can provide much needed expansion on a resume and a portfolio.

The Manship School offers its students various programs to study mass communication abroad. Financial aid is available for students seeking assistance through the Manship School's scholarships and LSU's Academics Programs Abroad's scholarships. Also check out the LSU Career Center’s Lagniappe Fund for internships abroad.

Global Sports Showcase

The Manship School Global Sports Showcase is an opportunity for students interested in researching and/or working in the sports communication industry. This experience, which varies in location by year, provides students with a chance to connect with sports industry professionals, cover major sporting events, and learn more about the role sports plays in the everyday lives of people across the world. In addition to sports-related excursions, students will also engage in the cuisine and culture of the respective countries through tours and service-learning opportunities.

The purpose of this course is to teach students how to produce written, visual and digital stories about people, places, food, culture and history via an immersive experience in distinct regions abroad. The course will have a few phases to it:

  • group meetings via Zoom while in the United States
  • several days in the field conducting interviews and gathering content for the final product while abroad
  • attending official sports events in various foreign cities/countries

This course serves as an upper division elective course for undergraduate and graduate students in the Manship School. The course will culminate by each student producing online stories, blogs, podcasts, vlogs or other digital content reflective of the stories they develop while abroad.

To apply for the program, submit an application by Nov. 30, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. after applications open sometime during the fall semester. The application is open to all Manship School undergraduate and graduate students.
